Heirloom Lace Knitting

Have you always wanted to knit heirloom lace doilies, tablecloths, christening gowns or shawls like you see in Victorian movies? This class will use the stunning lace pattern collections of Gloria Penning to teach you the basics of circular knit lace. We will learn how to chart 19th century patterns and how to adjust patterns for modern yarns and styles of knitting. Students will have sample patters to use in class and access to all six books to get inspiration. (Used with permission of the author.)

Materials included are yarn needles, graph paper and handout with patterns. 

Students bring sharp pencil with eraser and basic knitting notions. Must be comfortable with knits and purls.



Needle Felting 101:
​Floral Embellishment

You will learn the history of needle-felting, have hands on with various types of fiber identification/usage and the forms of market-ready needle-felting material, as well as different needle-felting techniques and effects. Each student will make and complete a floral embellishment to adorn their hat, purse, or coat to take home. 

Materials included in class: different colored fiber to complete the project, including core wool, wool, felting foam, floral form, a felting needle, all of which goes home with the student,

Students bring pencil/paper for note-taking. Also some BandAids. Yes, the needles are sharp!

Intro to Tapestry

Learn weft-faced weaving on The Dancing Goats "Tayet" travel-size loom.
True tapestry has a weft facing while the warp disappears into the structure and packing of weave. The class includes a Tayet student tapestry loom, warp thread, beater fork, and two safety needles.
​
We will warp the mini-loom in class and practice the techniques of weft-facing, adding joins, and changing colors. We will have some weft yarns available but students should bring a variety of yarn weights and colors for experimenting.

Market Basket

This is a basic market basket but we will be doing a decorative handle. Skill level is beginner. All basket reed and handle will be provided.

Please bring scissors and a towel, if you want. Any basket weaving tools that you have, you can bring. I have extra scissors and tools if you do not have any which you can borrow.

​Students need to bring:
  • Size 5 double pointed needles (dpn)
  • Yarn/darning needle
  • Small pair of scissors
  • Knitting gauge tool or small ruler
  • Small notebook or 3 prong pocket notebook
  • Pen/pencil for notes
  • Small knitting bag to carry work
  • Chocolate or favorite candy

Ring Around the Toesies:
Beginning Sock Knitting

If you love the idea of handmade socks, but feel it is a little daunting to learn ... this class is for you! Learn to knit socks using larger double pointed needles and worsted weight yarn, and a pattern just for beginners! All the basic skills of making socks will be covered and demonstrated, including casting on, knitting with dpn's, cuffs, heels and turning heels, decreasing and grafting. Students will receive handouts with tips, as well as the easy-to-follow pattern. 

Materials provided in class include 2 skeins of worsted-weight yarn, stitch markers, 1 small ball of scrap yarn, pattern and handouts.
